  • New York Giants Preview 2074-75

WOW ... 10 FFL years since I wrote something..

    Giants - 2074 Season Preview!!!!

    Overview
Can 't say we under achieved when we have only been to the playoffs once in the last 6 years.. .
Maybe we didn't write anything because of Darrin Skiffington was our QB.. That man made a fortune in New York, was voted a LEGEND OF THE GAME by the league.

Giants were a mediocre 7-9 last year.and with cap space and new faces and a "little" luck the Giants are aiming for 9-7

    Coaching

Dexter Reynolds was hired away from cross town rivals Philadelphia Eagles. He replaces Denzel Cochrane who was the coach over the last 4 years. Change is good and starting over with Reynolds should give Giants' fans something to get excited about.

Returning as offensive coordinator is Gary Williams who ran the spread offense. The rumor that the GM couldn't get the paper work in to replace him is false.. We love this guy and his 65 playbook limit. Gary focuses on Quarterbacks so we expect that he will work strongly with Skiffington's replacement.

On the defensive side Shawn Emmons returns with his 4-3 defense. Emmons is in a lame duck year, hence we will keep our eye on this situation to see how the defense responds.

    The Good

Giants did a good job of containing the run. ranking within the top 2 (Avg/G). Philip Uffins was voted 1st team ALL PRO, accounted for 12 sacks. and becomes the face of the franchise. Gilbert Wilcox let the team in tackles at 96... Run defense was the positive for the Giants in 2073.

    The Bad
Giants passing defense was near the bottom. Jorge Jones was a standout with 4 picks and 10 defensed... along with up and coming Jimmy Lowder who was extended for an eye catching 5 years and 181 million. Maybe the Giants think he can play QB...

Giants Rushing offense was mid tier. Top rusher was Doug Nestor??? Nestor ran for 732 yards. This was due to Chance Carlisle being plagued by injuries who was expected to be the lead dog in the Giants scheme. Without Carlisle, the offense relied on Skiffington.

Giants Passing Offense was mid tier with Skiffington throwing 27 TD and 19 interceptions. Both among the league leaders. Giants hope that they can cut down on turnovers for 2074.

    Additions

On Offense Axel Hernandez gets first shot at the starting QB spot. Axel has never started a game, hence there will be a lot of pressure on day 1 for him to perform.
Giants also brought back Devon Sheppard at WR. This was a bit of a surprise as Sheppard had lost his starting spot, but as the Giants are thin at WR he is an insurance policy.
DE Jon May, is the bookend to Uffins. The former 5th rounder is expected to support the run.

    Rookie Class
Kiss of death when you get a C+ from the media as part of the draft review. With the top pick you expect to have at least one player on the green page. Giants will be out to prove the critics wrong.

    1-13 Scottie Wiebe WR
    School: Penn State
    Height: 5’8”
    Weight:185 lbs

At Penn State Wiebe was considered one the best big play receivers in this college draft behind only Rusty Purucker who went number 2. Concerns about his height and weight allowed him to slip to pick 13. Wiebe is the highest drafted player since Barry Malone who flamed out in 2062. Big things expected.

    Projected - Brandin Cooks

    2-13 Scott Pritchett WR
    School: Clemson
    Height: 5'10”
    Weight:187 lbs

Two wide receivers? Pritchett at 5'10" is another under sized receiver. Likes to work in the slot and excels in breaking tackles. Although a tough cover, there were some concerns about his ability to catch in traffic . He did show the ability to be a game breaker as part of the kick return unit.

    3-13 Mackenzie Farley FB
    School: Rutgers
    Height: 5'9”
    Weight:231 lbs

Farley made a name for him self at Rutgers due to 'blocking'?? Well he is well liked and the Giants do need help with the run. Hopefully by drafting a blocking back this will open up some avenues for Carlisle to get going.

    Projected: Patrick Ricard

    4-13 Cornell Jeatt MLB
    School: The U
    Height: 6'2”
    Weight: 255 lbs

Brought in as insurance at ILB, Jeatt has yet to hit the field in pre-season. Hopefully with some adjustments he can grow into a productive player.

    Projection: too hard to tell
