  • Titans 2037

We headed into the 2037 off-season optimistic since we were the proud owners of the 1.1, 1.4, 1.32, and 2.1 picks in the upcoming draft. We had a good RB in OROY Montee Ball and some promising talent at other positions. We were very much hoping to see an elite WR or QB in this class to take at 1.1 and expected to land some sort of BPA at 1.4...unfortunately this wasn't that sort of class.

So we made the best of it and traded away 1.4 as well as several future high picks for an elite WR in 5th year man Roosevelt Bailey. That left us with 1.1 as well as 1.32 and 2.1 to find some decent building blocks.

    1.1 - OLB Eddie Begley, Syracuse - 74/79
78/78 (+4/-1) Overall happy with this outcome.
A somewhat controversial player in college as one of the first surgically-enhanced players to play in the NCAA. His court case made a lot of news as initially he was banned by the NCAA because of his augmentations. However the ACLU battled for his rights against discrimination and he was allowed to resume play. The FFL has not issued any official statements at this point but it is assumed that the Titans organization has at least cleared the question prior to making this selection. If he is indeed allowed to play, it seems like it will be a steady headache for QBs and offensive linemen for years to come.

    1.32 - OLB J.J. Strow, Temple - 32/69 (29/69 after move to ILB)
34/62 (+2/-7) A little disappointed in that future drop but he will get his chance to start regardless.
We were hoping that we would be able to land the top QB of this class still here as he was plummeting down the draft. Unfortunately somebody stopped the fall. However, we planned to move to a 3-4 once Begley was picked and so we needed some quality backers. Strow doesn't have great speed but has good instincts and will fit well inside in our re-vamped linebacking corps.

      2.1 - WR Emmitt Newman, Houston - 26/43
28/40 (+2/-3) Rather disappointed his future dropped as it wasn't high to start
Newman isn't an elite receiver by any means but we were looking for another receiving option that may eventually develop into a quality #2 option. He has shaky hands and runs sloppy routes. He isn't terribly fast, to boot, so not sure if he will pan out.

      3.1 - SS Britt Sampson, Arkansas - 18/57
      23/50 (+5/-7) Yet again a future drop.
Sampson looks like he can cover rather well and is not a huge liability vs. the run. He isn't likely to knock anybody out but is a ball-hawk that will fit nicely alongside Haley, who is a master of zone coverage. He is rather raw so it may take a few years to crack the starting lineup.

Begley is the only one that didn't mostly disappoint in camp for us.
