Overview: This draft looks to be a solid one, though the Preseason reveal should clarify that more. The Vikings got stud players in Floyd and Wilcox, with Lawson and McDaniel looking to contribute immediately as well. There is no doubt the Vikings got better defensively through this draft.
1.11 - Leonard Floyd, LB (34/74)
Solid looking numbers for a first round pick. He will likely start this season, though which position he plays (Mike or Will) is still a bit up in the air.
Status: Starting LB
2.10 - Shaq Lawson, DE (26/48)
We were hoping for a bit higher numbers here, but Lawson certainly has a skillset to develop into a useful asset to the team. Look for him to backup the aging Matthews at LDE this season before moving into the starting position in a season or two.
Status: Backup DE this season, but will be groomed in to a starter.
3.9 - Collin McDaniel, CB (22/49)
Great upside for a mid-round pick. Minnesota is currently stacked at the position, however, giving McDaniel some time to develop. He could very likely transition to Safety.
Status: Future starter at Safety or Corner.
4.8 - Omar Wilcox, FB (19/52)
Wilcox is a prototypical FB with great upside in both the running and passing games. A solid camp could see him starting this season.
Status: Starting FB.
5.7 - Justin Collier, QB (14/38)
Minnesota liked the tape on this young gunslinger out of Stonehill. Even with Harris is firm control of the starting spot, it was worth a 5th round flyer on Collier. His initial numbers are amazing, but they are solid enough for him to develop into a QB2.
Status: Potential backup QB
6.13 - Bill Deane, G (18/41)
Really solid numbers for a 6th round pick, but guard is a stacked position on the Vikings. Deana could see some work at C in the preseason.
Status: Developmental.
7.12 - Johnny Tate, DT (22/34)
Tate's number are nothing special in a deep position for the Vikings. He needs a good camp to make the team.
Status: Fighting for a spot on the team.
