  • Giants 2053 - Season Preview

    Overview

The 2052 Giants were led by MLB Nicholas Dresselhaus and WR Frank Garret and finished the year at 8-8.
The Giants did just enough to finish first and was able to defeat the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints before succumbing to the Chicago Bears in Soldier Fields 20-9.

In what was supposed to be a down year this was considered a success

    Coaching

Drew Bachman starts his 12th year at the helm with 9 successive playoff appearances along with Offensive Coordinator CJ Spiller who has been at his side.

On the defensive side, the Giants brought in Ricardo Clayton as the Defensive Coordinator as well as Bryan Owns the Assistant Head Coach.

    The Good

The strength of the Giants was their Passing Offense ranked 11th.

On the Defensive Side, the Rushing Defense was 11th

The loss of starting QB Terry Bridgewater hindered the Giants' ability to put points on the board, which required them to depend upon their defense and an improved running game.

RB Roger Mason gained 500 yards in a reserve role, as part of running back by committee.

    Additions

Roosevelt Cornell DE from Dallas was brought in to help the pass rush after the retirement of Julian Lyle.

Randy Glover WR from Green Bay who replaces Kevin White who went to Cleveland for a 3 year deal.

    Subtractions
Kevin White - Mr Do It All was the Primary Kick Returner and Punt returner for the GIants. He willbe replace by Randy Glover at WR and Allen Parella last years number 1 pick for kick returns.

    Draft Rating
Giants Scouting was blasted in the media as the Draft Review gave us a rating of C.

No Giants made the green page so no stars as of yet here.

    1-29
    Chris Collier - ILB

    School: Oregon
    Height: 5' 10” (Below Average)
    Weight: 230 lbs (Below Average)
Collier is a bit undersized, but was drafted as a OLB. With Dresselhaus getting up in age, was time to start looking at replacements. His strengths were against the run game and in coverage.

    Rated - Good

    2-29 Zane Denning - SS
    School: Louisana Monroe
    Height: 5 11” (Below Average)
    Weight: 200 lbs (Below Average)

Denning was a bit of a suprise after the GIants drafted Parella last year at number 1. Denning was bit of a ball hawk in college and showed good cover skills. The perfect complement. Content for starting FS.

    Rated - Poor

    3-29 Ted Patton - LT
    School: Kansas State
    Height: 6' 5” (Average)
    Weight: 314 lbs (Average)
Patton has the perfect size at LT and the GIants need help at LT. Patton was above average in run blocking, which may mean a switch to RT in the Giants offensive scheme.

    Rated - Average

    4-29 Lonnie Delery - QB
    School: Virginia
    Height: 6' 0” (Below Average)
Weight: 205 lbs (Way Below Average)
Delery graded out well in QB essentials. Showed the ability to read the defense, hit receivers on the run, only concern was arm strength. He will battle it out for backup QB.

    Rated - Fair

    5-29 Jeffrey Embree - DT
    School: Washington
    Height: 6’ 3” (Average)
Weight: 320 lbs (Way Above Average)
Giants looking for some additional help went with Embrey who showed potential against the run as well as an ability to separte the man from the ball. Expected to be a backup in DT.

    Rated - Average

    6-29 Francisco Peters - CB
    School: Ball State
    Height: 5' 10” (Above Average)
Weight: 182 lbs (Way Below Average)
Peters is a bump and run corner although a bit undersized. At Ball State they played a lot of man coverage which he excels at. Peters will get a shot as the nickel corner back.
    Rated - Average

    7-29 Byron Hutchings - ILB
    School: Illinois
    Height: 5' 11” (Below Average)
Weight: 228 lbs (Way Below Average)
Hutchins is a pass rushing specialist who showed some ability to cover running backs out of the back field. He hopefully will develop and gain some reps during passing downs.
    Rated - Good
