  • Week One : Houston Finds A Way To Lose, Tenn Triumphs 30-29

    This was a bad loss.

With time expiring in the fourth Titans Tevin Cox kicks a 21 yard field goal to clinch the win for Tennessee.

Houston, despite being plus 4 in turnovers (3 Ints and 1 fumble recovery) still found a way to lose the season opener. Seven red zone visits resulted in FIVE FG's and two TD's for the Titans. Their first two drives, seven plays each, resulted in FG's in the first quarter. Houston's first possession in the second was another sustained 8 play drive that once more ended in another FG. They had their chances to put it away early but kept the Titans in this one.

Houston led 6-0 after one and 29-17 after three quarters. Three and outs on each of their three fourth quarter drives left the door open for Tennessee and QB Bryce Petty, who despite 3 interceptions and 65.2 QB rating led the Titans 71 yards over 9 plays to put them in FG position and the win as time expired.

Featured Houston RB CJ Grant finished the afternoon with 105 yards on 19 carries and FB O.J. Bevins added 44 yards on 12 attempts, neither reached the end zone via the ground.

QB Jayden Flora, a free agent at the end of the season who is going to cash in big, went 16 of 26, 137 yards and 2 TD passes for a 100.9 rating. Despite no turnovers Houston could not overcome their inability to score TD's as well as the big play arm of Tenn QB Petty.

FB Bevins and WR Christain Finkenstadt led all Houston receivers with four catches and WR Gene Banks led the team with 38 yards. The lack of a big play receiver is apparent.

Tennessee WR Kris Caine had 7 catches for 120 yards and BJ Hernandez added 7 for 113 yards.

Rookie, sixth round pick Fernando Sawyer went a perfect 5/5 on FG's with a long of 38 and CB Mackenzie Branch nabbed 2 INTs.

Houston faces 0-1 Seattle next week.

Nice write-up. We certainly lucked into this one as both rookie WRs Caine and Hernandez showcased some big play skills.
